Open Wide Open

The Open Wide Open is comprised of a group of colleagues who have set out to make a positive impact in and around the Pittsburgh, PA community. Each year we host a one-day golf event where the proceeds are passed to the chosen charity. We have grown in number of participants, sponsors and total donation each year. We look forward to your participation this year!

Jake Robert Cooper came into our lives on August 3, 2007. Jake was an amazing gift from God and a blessing to everyone who knew him. Jake was an energetic, funny, witty, kind, and happy boy. He loved to make people laugh and have a good time.

Jake had many roles in which he excelled. He was mentor to younger kids and loved to teach them about sports. He was a brother who adored his sisters and would drop everything to do something fun with them. He was a friend who could always bring a smile to your face. He was a teammate who would be your biggest fan. He was a Son, Grandson, Nephew, Cousin, and Friend who was adored and loved beyond measure.

On March 22, 2020, Jake left us for Heaven. Jake went to sleep the night before and never woke up. Jake was his normal, crazy self the night before, playing video games and making music videos with his sisters. He was healthy. Jake's death to date is unexplained. SUDC is the sudden unexplained death in children.

Jake's family and friends want his legacy and memory to live on, to never forget this sweet, loving, amazing boy who's life here on earth was entirely too short. Jake had many passions but baseball made the top of the list. He LOVED the game. Jake's Way was founded as a way to ensure Jake's legacy and love for the game lives on. Jake's Way will help children be able to play sports, have appropriate equipment, and be part of a team no matter their income or hardship they may endure.

About OWO

We look forward to seeing everyone out on the course again this year for the 15th Annual Open Wide Open!

This year's event will take place on Friday, June 2nd, 2023 at Pittsburgh National Golf Club in Gibsonia, PA and will benefit Jake's Way.

Founded in 2009, the Open Wide Open has raised over $220,000 for local non-profits: Every Child, Inc. Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania, The First Tee of Pittsburgh, Manchester Bidwell, Best Buddies, The Woodlands Foundation, FreeStore 15104, Muriel's Breath of Life, Orange Arrow, Jeremiah's Place, Spenser's Voice Fund, Beverly's Birthdays and Knead Community Café. Strong participation and support was instrumental in making our events a complete success, so we are reaching out to you in hopes that you will align with us for yet another year of success for another great cause!

The golf event is in a four person scramble format with a 11am shotgun start. The festivities will include lunch as well as an all-you-can-eat buffet dinner, and a silent auction. Non-golfers are invited to attend the dinner and silent auction for a separate donation.

We are looking forward to spending the afternoon with you, enjoying friends and raising money to support the effort to help children who need financial assistance to participate in athletic activities. Based on previous years’ success, we are expecting a great turnout for the 15th annual outing. Our players are men and women of all ages who live and work throughout the Pittsburgh-metro area. There is also a strong business contingency to our guest list, which makes The Open Wide Open a great opportunity for you to directly communicate your products or services, as well as showcase your support of the community we call home.

Please see the Sponsorship page for participation and sponsorship levels. The Open Wide Open is a non-profit public, volunteer-run corporation so your donation is tax deductible. Any level of support you or your company can contribute would be greatly appreciated.
